Victoria Crowned Pigeon
Goura victoria

Here at Banham Zoo
One of the most mischievous residents of the Tropical House is our Victoria crowned pigeon. She's easy to spot with her bright blue feathers and fancy crest!
Sadly, these birds are near-threatened due to deforestation and hunting for their meat. Here at Banham Zoo, we're helping to protect and conserve the species.
Where Do I Live?
Need to look up
Victoria crowned pigeons are found lowland forest and swamp forests. They live in groups of between two and ten birds.
What Do I Eat?
These pigeons eat fallen fruit, berries, seeds and small invertebrates such as insects and snails.
How Do I Breed?
Victoria crowned pigeons lay one or two eggs, which they incubate for around 30 days. Pigeons produce a substance known as crop milk, which they regurgitate to feed the chick until it is around 10 days old!
